NUM Presents:
Spectral Dialogues: How to Bleed Through Sound
Spectral Dialogues is a sonic drama by NUM, a conversation between two sound artists who have collaborated and shared the stage for nearly 15 years. Merging electroacoustic and electronic music with sonic arts, this hybrid human-machine/sound-light performance explores processed live voice, intricate rhythms, warped instruments, and real-time sonic textures. Using custom generative audio engines built on Max for Live, the set seamlessly blends pre-composed material with live improvisation on voice and electronics. An interactive lighting module adds a theatrical dimension. Thematically, it reflects the Iranian duo’s struggles—oppression, catastrophe, rage, sadness, and uncertainty—unfolding as a deeply personal sonic dialogue.
Spectral Dialogues is currently in the production phase and will debut in summer 2025.
Recorded at NUM's studio in Calgary, January 2025
